Golf

Powhatan County has two 18-hole public golf courses, Mill Quarter Plantation Golf Course and the Independence Golf Course, home of the Virginia State Golf Association Golf and Education Center; as well as, one private 18-hole course, the Foundry.


Fighting Creek Park

Located in the Village area, the 220-acre Fighting Creek Park is home to athletic fields, including a concession building, four baseball fields, three soccer fields, modern playgrounds, picnic shelters and hiking trails.  Powhatan Disc Golf Course, located at Fighting Creek Park, is dubbed "The Monster", as it is touted as Virginia's longest disc golf course. Associations

The Powhatan Youth Athletic Association, the Powhatan Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee and Powhatan Soccer Association provide activities for all ages.  The County owns numerous baseball, softball and soccer fields.


State Facilities

Powhatan State Park has three car-top boat slides, a full-service campground, a canoe-in campground, a group campground, multi-use trails, wildlife observation areas, picnic shelters and a playground.
The Powhatan Wildlife Management Area provides 4,462 acres for hunting, fishing, hiking and horseback riding trails under the jurisdiction of the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.  The Department also maintains two public boat landings on the James River at Maidens Landing and Watkins Landing.


Other

The YMCA, located in Fighting Creek Park, offers the community many activities and services, such as swimming, family events, team sports and childcare.  Area businesses offer yoga, dance, fitness training and aerobic classes.  From horse clubs to camping at the local family campground, Cozy Acres, Powhatan is rich in recreational opportunities.


Public Library

Powhatan has one public library, located in Fighting Creek Park.  Built in 2001, the library houses approximately 50,000 items available for check out, two conference rooms, 15 high-speed internet computers, a wireless network and children's programs.


Fairgrounds

Located in the heart of the County on Route 60 near the Courthouse, the Powhatan County Fairgrounds are home to an annual county fair and a variety of other special events held throughout the year.
